Jurij Slypyč

Demi-soloist

In 1989 graduated from the State Ballet Conservatoire in Kiev, and during 1989-1993 was member of the Kiev National Theatre where he soon received his first great roles (Prince in The Nutcracker, Albert and the Wedding Couple in Giselle, Pas de trois in The Swan Lake). In the years 1993-1997 he danced as member of the Prague Laterna Magika (Magic Lantern) Ballet (e.g. the role of Tamino in The Magic Flute, the Sad Clown in The Magic Circus and Casanova in the production of the same name). A successful engagement at the Prague National Theatre Ballet followed where Jurii Slipič created many roles of classical, neo-classical and modern repertoire during 1997-2005. Colin in La Fille mal Gardée, Jester in The Swan Lake and in Cinderella, the Wedding Couple in Giselle, Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, Baghira the Panther in Mauglí (Mowgli) ballet, young Norman in the dancing drama Psycho were among his highlights. He also danced in choreographies of Jurij Grigorovič (Béranger in Raymonda, Harlequin and the French Dance in The Nutcracker), of Jiří Kylián (Sinfonietta, The Child and the Sorceries, Forgotten Land), of Glen Tetley (Anubis in the Sphinx, with Daria Klimentová as his partner), of Alvin Ailey (solo in The River), and G. Balanchine (Tarantella and Who Cares?). In 1999 Jurii Slipič finished his studies at the Academy of Music and Drama in Moscow, as teacher-choreographer and ballet art theoretician with academician M. Lavrovski. Since 2005 Jurii Slipič has been teaching at the City of Prague Conservatoire of Dance and performing as member of the State Opera Prague where roles like Armand in Lady of the Camellias and Pas de trois in The Swan Lake have been among his highlights.
