Michaela Kapustová

Soloist of the Czech National Opera

The Brno-born mezzo-soprano, Michaela Kapustová, became a Prague State Opera soloist in February 2011.

She graduated from Yvona Škvárová’s class at the Prague Conservatory in 2008, and between 2001 and 2007 also studied voice privately, with Professor Antonie Denygrová. Her further training included the attendance of Peter Dvorský’s master classes in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou. She made her opera stage debut in 2008, at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, in the role of Rosina (Rossini, Il barbiere di Siviglia). In 2010, she debuted with formidable success at the National Theatre in Brno, as Rossini’s Cenerentola, and at České Budějovice, as Kate in Dvořák’s The Devil and Kate. She has guest appeared in the Prague National Theatre’s productions of Dvořák’s Rusalka (Third Nymph), Bizet’s Carmen (Mercedes), Smetana’s Libuše (Third Harvester), and will feature in Wagner’s Parsifal (March, April 2011, as part of the second group of the Magic Maidens). Beyond the opera stage, she works with the Prague Philharmonia, the Plzeň Philharmonic Orchestra, the České Budějovice Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Talich Chamber Orchestra.

She is making her debut at the Prague State Opera on February 13, 2011, as the Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte).

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
